K.J.: There are rumors about a TV show being created based on "the cleaners"... any truth to that?
Trevor: No, I hadn't heard the rumor about a TV surrounding the cleaners until now, but I knew as soon as that character was created in episode three that if there was a spin-off that would probably be the one...
K.J.: Which characters on Moonlight did you come up with and which characters were collaborative creations?
Trevor: The characters that Ron and I specifically came up with are as follows: Mick St. John, Coraline, Beth, Josef, Chicken Josh (minus the chicken), Carl, Guillermo, Mo, and Steve the cameraman... Also, the majority of the characters in episodes 1 which we wrote, 8 which we came up with the story for, and 10 which we also wrote. The rest were collaborations with the other talented writers on the Moonlight staff.
K.J.: Was Coraline always outlined to betray Mick on their wedding night, or did you have other ideas for Mick's turning?
Trevor: In the novel, Coraline slips into San Quentin and turns Mick (who is on death row for a murder she committed) the night before he is to be put to death. In the TV show, Coraline turns Mick on their wedding night. Ron and I liked the idea of subverting that romantic event. Of creating a real "Til Death Do us Part" moment. So that is pretty much how we had it from the start.
K.J.: So how and when did you find out about Moonlight's cancellation?
Trevor: I found out about the cancellation just before the CBS up fronts in New York. I was as surprised as everyone else. Everything we had been hearing seemed to suggest that the show would go on.
K.J.: What do you think about the idea of another network, for example- the SciFi network, picking up Moonlight for a second season?
Trevor: It'd be great if another network came to the rescue. I would think they'd be very happy to have millions of rabid vampire fans tuning in for them every week. And it would be nice to see the show get a chance to continue.
K.J.: If another network were to pick up the show, how involved would you be with that?
Trevor: If Moonlight is picked up by another network, my involvement would depend a lot on them. They would be the final say as to who they wanted and the sort direction they wanted the show to take.
K.J.: Do you plan to do any more work in television in future?
Trevor: Ron and I met twice last week to talk about a new show idea. Can't really go into it much, but it's pretty exciting. Although not about vampires, it is supernatural, and I think people who liked Moonlight will like this one too. It's also something I think that people will get coming from Ron and I. We plan to get busy pitching it before summer's end, so stayed tuned...
K.J.: Your mother has had some recent health issues. Can you give us a health update on her?
Trevor: As for my Mom, she's doing pretty well. She has been in the hospital now for most of June and has received her bone marrow transplant. Although it's been a rough ride, she seems to be on her way to recovering. With luck she'll be home with us by the fourth of July. She really loved getting all the wonderful and supportive cards from the fans, and I think it really helped.
K.J.: How do you feel about the Moonlight fans who participated in helping to find a bone-marrow donor and those who are now promoting Leukemia Awareness, as well as other Moonlight fans' causes including blood donation?
Trevor: As I've said in the past, I am floored by what the fans have done in terms of the blood drives. When I was writing the novel I hoped that it would have a positive impact on those who read it, and felt similarly when the show went on the air. But what the fans have done by taking that positivity and their love for the show out into the world is truly beautiful. It amazes me every time I think about real people in need being helped because of the fans' love for the show. It's great. A better outcome than any I ever anticipated.
K.J.: Are you currently working on any other projects? If so, can you tell us a little about them?
Trevor: I'm currently working on getting my children's novel "Fletcher Freek and the Voodoo Guru" published. Hopefully I will make some good progress with that in the next few weeks, although I hear the publishing world is pretty dead through much of the summer. In the meantime, I am also working on two feature movie ideas- one is a dark supernatural comedy, and the other a sci-fi action thriller. I have also optioned a sci-fiction novel along the lines of Aliens/Predator meets Jurassic Park, and am currently trying to get that project set up to write...
